NEW: The MEDEA D/A Converter is now called MEDEA+
This because of the new analog section we built for the MEDEA - a new D/A converter chip augmented by eight of our in-house designed discrete operational amplifiers. A truly state of the art design which makes the MEDEA+ a top performer amongst Audio D/A Converters. All MEDEA units can be upgraded with this new analog section. Read more in the Medea+ brochure.
What MEDEA+ users say:
"We have had a chance to spend time with the Medea+ with Firewire. All I can say is .. WOW. It is amazing. I listened with a TAD system (CR1s, Viola Labs preamp, various amplifiers) and also with a highly resolving headphone setup (Woo WES and Stax 009s). Mighty impressive!"
"What I've felt this week-end is beyond words. Again this evening I've been transfixed by the music during hours... "Beast" was not the appropriate adjective for the Medea+: it puts out the most refined sound one could possibly imagine.
I congratulate you... you are doing a beautiful profession indeed..."
Other upgrades available for MEDEA or MEDEA+ are:
- A Firewire interface. The Firewire interface allows to connect the Medea to PC or MAC computers for music file playback via the MEDEA. The features of the Firewire interface are the same as those of the INT202 interface as shown here. Information on computer based music playback can be found here.
- A ST type glass fiber optical input. This input allows to connect e.g. the JASON CD Transport to the MEDEA via a glass fiber cable for uncompromised signal transmission.
More information on all upgrades can be found in the MEDEA+ brochure.
The MEDEA is a stereo 24 bit / 192kHz Digital to Analog converter designed with the aim of keeping an absolutely uncompromised audio signal path. Much detail and thought was spent on the digital input as well as the analog output stage. Both have in common the purest possible approach in audio design, aspiring for nothing less than excellence. This is coupled with an ergonomic design that gives the user immediate access to all necessary functions, while keeping an uncluttered and thus easy-to-use front panel. This combination makes a truly professional D/A converter catering for the highest expectations.
We engineers at Weiss refuse to accept any compromises in both electronics or software. We built the MEDEA to be immune to jitter down to subsonic frequencies. This means you simply forget about expensive digital audio cables. We also incorporated upsampling (oversampling) right into the DSP, taking the same algorithms as used in our professional audio product range. And we made the analog outputs not only Class A but also very low impedance, which assures that the MEDEA flawlessly drives subsequent cables and input stages.
